Copper Street Capital are a new hedge fund based in Maidenhead. They invest exclusively in financial services, and have a portfolio of both listed companies and private companies. Bruno is also an alumni of the ICMA Centre and studied ISIB, one of our most popular courses.
He walked us through how regulations have changed banking, and taught us some of the metrics he uses to assess potential investments in financial services. It was a great insight into the cutting edge of the buy-side: they are a specialist, event-driven fund and in conversation with students afterwards Bruno shared some insights into how he keeps his finger on the pulse so that he can react to the news and market moves.
We had a live example of this – the political upheavals in Spain and Catalonia had moved the market and Bruno had been dealing with that for most of the day before he came to speak!

Next week we are going to hear how big-data is changing the insurance industry. This is essential for anybody who is interested in how technology will change finance: the lessons we will learn from this case study can be applied throughout the industry.
Our speaker is Adam Jones from Altus Consulting.
